Augusta, Kansas
The first building in Augusta, a log structure, built in
1868, is still preserved as a landmark and now houses a
historical museum. Augusta was incorporated as a city in 1871.
Augusta lies on a table land near the confluence of the Walnut
and Whitewater Rivers. According to a local legend this plateau
was the scene of many Indian battles including one in which
thousands perished.
